Dr Anthony Croft is a Queensland and Oxford trained gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a passion for providing world-class medical care to fellow Queenslanders.
Dr Croft is a general gastroenterologist and specialist inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) physician at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). He is known for delivering timely, compassionate, and evidence-based medical care for his patients. Dr Croft’s engaging and honest approach to communication with patients, their families and referring healthcare providers ensures that his patients are fully informed during their treatment journey.
Anthony completed a medical degree at the University of Queensland (UQ) and subsequently trained in hospitals throughout southeast Queensland. He undertook an IBD Telehealth Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2017, the same year he was awarded his Fellowship by the Australasian College of Physicians. He continues to take an active role in providing care for patients from both regional and southeast Queensland through his appointment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
In 2018-2019 he undertook a Senior Clinical Fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, UK. At this international centre of excellence, he received additional training in general gastroenterology, hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease.
This included training in image enhanced colonoscopy for colorectal cancer detection and involvement in the IBD dysplasia surveillance and clinical trial programmes.
Following this prestigious fellowship, he received training in intestinal ultrasound at the University Hospital Erlangen Medical Clinic in Germany. He continues to develop his skills in this patient-friendly technique at his RBWH IBD clinics.
He is the clinical lead for IBD clinical trials at RBWH. These trials are instrumental in investigating new treatments for IBD and afford excellent access to novel treatment options for selected IBD patients.
Anthony has been engaged in gastrointestinal research since 2005. He was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree by UQ in 2019 for a thesis exploring risk prediction of clinical outcomes in acute ulcerative colitis. He continues to be active in contributing to the medical literature and in teaching the next generation of physicians through his academic appointment of Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
